In addition
to altering global ecology, human activities and human population growth also
affect evolutionary trajectories of many others species. Human impact on the
global biosphere actually controls many of major facets of ecosystem structure.
Is known for everyone to a large fraction of the world’s available fresh water,
fertile land, CO2 balance and see conditions are dominated by human activities
effects. Consequences are diverse, for one hand affect evolutionary
trajectories accelerating evolutionary change, especially in commercially
important species (resistance to drugs in bacterial strains, plants and insects
resistance to pesticides, rapid changes in invasive species are examples of
this) where biological engineering advances are, in great hand, responsible of
this. On the other hand, deforestation, desertification, pollution on the air
and water, introducing species in new environments, indiscriminate killing,
among others, have generated massive extinction of many species in our ecosystem,
broken biome balance. In Chile are many species extinct, but this number is low
comparative with other Latin Americans countries. Species like Numenius borealis commonly called “Zarapito
boreal”, Ctenomys magellaniscus dicki
or “Tuco-tuco”, Rhinoderma rufum or “Rana
Darwin”, Pseudalopex fulvipes or “Zorro
Chilote” are few examples of extinct animals (if we considering others
kingdoms, like vegetal o fungi, this number would increase significatively).
Solutions
for this problem are so simple (theoretically) like poor convenient to dominant
groups: limit, restrict and supervise efficiently the activities of big
industries, major responsibles of pollution and enviroment destruction. But,
this isn't rentable for the industry and commerce, so... the question is ¿are
political measures aimed at protection of risk species and biodiversity or,
rather, are aimed to protected large economic groups interests? I think response
is known for all of us.
