Today, I
talk about a great band, for me, one of a few of this “circle of bands” who
have achieved broken with music common parameters, this band is called HAGGARD.
Originally, Haggard is a German death metal band who explored the most symphonic and
philharmonic aspects of metal, making him in a band who combines aspects of classical
music, opera, and the darkest side of metal compositions.
Haggard is
composed of more than 20 musicians, including violinists, cellists, pianists,
percussionist, a harp player, a clarinettist, oboist, English and French horn
player, flute, bass, electric guitar, and relating to voice is composed by soprano,
tenor & guttural vocals.
Their
compositions address issues related to science, history and mythological
culture. One of their albums (in fact, my favorite), released in 2004, is about
the life of Italian mathematician, physicist and philosopher, Galileo Galilei,
Sentenced to prison for heresy by the catholic church for supporting
Copernicus' claim that the earth revolved around the sun. This album, in fact,
is called “Eppur si muove”, en english “and yet it moves”.
Although Haggard
isn’t so familiar for the people, have a great reception by music lovers. Others
just hate it.
Generally,
the bands that broke parameters have political or ideological tendencies,
related with his social context. An example of that is an amazing Chilean band:
Los Jaivas. This band established a new form of create and play music, taking
shape as the most peculiar Chilean band of progressive-folk music.
